Center for Information Technology, Society, and Law (ITSL)

Dark Patterns

Tuesday, 24 November 2020, 4:30 - 6:00 pm CET, online attendance

In our daily use of websites and apps, we hardly ever pay attention to how their design influences our actions or our user behavior.

This is astonishing, because the design of user interfaces is often disturbing or even dangerous: It can deliberately deceive, manipulate or even make users dependent. In computer science one speaks of "dark patterns".

The Center for Information Technology, Society, and Law (ITSL) examines this phenomenon from the perspectives of infomatics, psychology, ethics and law. The goal is to gain a better understanding of this phenomenon and to outline possible solutions.

This event will take place online and in English only.

Participation is free; registration is possible under info@itsl.uzh.ch
