The ITSL conducts (fundamental) research on digitization topics with an interdisciplinary approach. It examines the interactions between developments in information technology, the associated changes in society and the legal system. These activities focus on specific research areas, in which research projects are carried out with third-party and university funding.
At the same time, the ITSL is active in consultancy and thus strongly anchored in practice. On the one hand, this enables the relevance of its own research to be measured against practice; on the other hand, practical problems are often connected to fundamental questions where interdisciplinary research is key. These practical activities of the ITSL can be divided into the areas of commissioned research and legal opinions.
